I'm Back ... and Pippin!

Wow!  I just realized that it has been almost a month since I posted.  Things have been very busy here on the Cove!  First I has held hostage by  my new loom for quite a while; weaving is totally addicting! (Photos coming soon, Laura :)  Then there were 80 pounds of tomatoes to be canned, an update/remodel of the garage pantry to make it more earthquake proof (post coming soon), planting the fall/winter garden (another post soon) and, most recently, traveling to Spokane to bring home our new puppy!

This is the photo I fell in love with when I saw it on the Silver Paw Cavachons blog.

Mike and I drove to Kristy's home in Spokane on Sunday to meet him ... it was love at first sight.  We named him Pippin (after one of the hobbits in Lord of the Rings).

Today he is exploring his new home ...

... getting to know his new best friend ...

... and just hangin' out with the rest of the pack.

I'll post about all the rest of the gardening and home keeping activities soon, but today I need to finish Pippin proofing the backyard (he's small enough to get through the fence).

Enjoy!

Where's The Fish?

I haven't been good about posting the last couple of weeks (Penny, I'm going to get the pressure cooker chicken stock post up this week, I promise!).  Trout season opened here on the lake two weeks ago and I'm hooked (pun intended :).  I've been out fishing almost everyday.  And I'm getting lots of exercise because I fish from our paddle boat!

It's not like I could take a day off from fishing, either ... even if it's raining my supervisors would be upset if I didn't head out ...

Fishing supervisors on the job ...

Coming in  with the catch of the day ... (yes, it IS pouring down rain!)

Back with the catch ... still under careful supervision ...

... let's see it! ...

...well? ...

...wait a minute ... there's only three in here ... where are the rest? ...

No! ... really ... come back! ... where are the rest of them??!!

Photography by Mike Fitz (who was having way too much fun).

No fish were fried in the making of this post ... they all went back into the lake.

Enjoy!

Ewuuuh! PU! Gag...cough...

No photo to go with this post...but I wish I could post a link to the smell!  YUCK!

I was out working on the new raised bed in between rain squalls...and our young pup, Carly, was out in the yard with me...one minute she was there, then: POOF!  She was gone...I thought I had found all the spots where she could get under the fence, but apparently not.

I spent the better part of an hour looking for her when she finally answered my call and came running from next door...covered in pitch and some kind of black slime that smelled like dead fish....OMG!  I realized that she'd been rolling in otter poop!!!  GAG!

So little Pepe Le Pew has had one bath and she still stinks...I'm heading for my herbal cabinet to put together a rinse for the next bath...I'm thinking peppermint and pennyroyal might do the trick...

All of a sudden having otters living next door isn't so cute after all...

Meet Carly...

Sorry it's been a while since I posted...I ran into a slight “road block” that is taking up a lot of my time right now...

This our 8 week old Cavachon puppy, Carly.

Enjoy!
